Last Friday, my friend and I were walking around the East Village trying to find somewhere to eat for dinner. We knew we were in for a tough match because it was Friday night at 8pm and it was one of those warm, summer feeling nights. Good luck trying to find somewhere that isn't jam packed. Oh yeah, and we wanted to eat outside...
We walked south along Second Avenue, a pretty safe bet in my opinion and stopped by San Marzano. There was a table for two outside that was empty. But when we asked the hostess how long the wait was, she said it was two hours! That would mean we would be eating around 10pm. No dice.
We kept walking and came to Wall 88 and I remember this used to be Lionsbeer Store. They used to have living room lamps outside and while I had been there before for a drink, I had never eaten there. It turns out that it's essentially the same place but they just rebranded it a little.
The wait was only about 15 minutes and we were able to snag some seats at the bar so we considered ourselves lucky.
The minute we opened the drink menu we knew we found something special. A bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for $24?! We ordered that immediately. When it was time to sit down, we discovered that the entire menu is pretty budget friendly, especially in New York and especially for a Friday night. We each got burgers that averaged $11 and were truly impressed. I had a burger with a fried egg, cheese and mushrooms, probably my three favorite things on a burger and it was incredible.
It's so exciting when you find a place like this and it makes me so happy. Now I have another neighborhood go-to spot! I think I'll be back here this weekend...
